Clean Air Champions Hub – One-Day Creative Workshop

Objective: Empower students to raise awareness about air pollution through artistic expression, inspiring advocacy and action for cleaner air.

Overview
Clean Air Champions Hub is a one-day workshop where students use art and creativity to understand and address air quality challenges. Through painting, storytelling, and interactive projects, participants learn about the causes and effects of air pollution while advocating for solutions. Every student will receive a “Clean Air Champion” certificate and become part of a school-wide initiative to promote clean air practices. A standout student will be named the “Clean Air Ambassador,” representing their school in broader environmental campaigns.

Schedule for the Day

  1. Welcome & Air Quality Awareness Briefing (30 minutes)
    • Implementation:
      The session begins with an engaging presentation on air pollution, its sources, and its impact on health and the environment. Students are divided into groups called “Artivist Squads” (artist-activist teams) to collaborate throughout the day.
    • Objectives:
      • Introduce the significance of air quality issues.
      • Build excitement for using art as a tool for change.
    • Impact:
      • Provides foundational knowledge about air pollution.
      • Inspires enthusiasm for creative advocacy.
  1. Activity 1: Pollution Through the Lens (1 hour)
    • Implementation:
      Students create a visual timeline using drawings or collages to depict the journey of air pollution, from its causes to its effects. Teams also brainstorm possible solutions to air quality problems.
    • Objectives:
      • Encourage visual storytelling to simplify complex environmental issues.
      • Teach students the interconnectedness of human activity and air quality.
    • Impact:
      • Builds a deeper understanding of air pollution dynamics.
      • Develops problem-solving skills through creative thinking.
  1. Activity 2: Clean Air Murals (1.5 hours)
    • Implementation:
      Each Artivist Squad designs a mural or poster advocating for cleaner air. The artwork highlights actionable steps individuals and communities can take to improve air quality. Finished pieces are displayed in a prominent school location.

  1. Lunch & Artistic Inspiration Break (1 hour)
    • Implementation:
      Students enjoy a healthy, eco-friendly lunch and participate in a short storytelling session. A local artist or environmental activist shares their journey in using creativity to inspire environmental change.
    • Objectives:
      • Connect students with role models in creative environmental advocacy.
      • Recharge energy and fuel inspiration for the afternoon activities.
    • Impact:
      • Motivates students to see their potential in making a difference.
      • Strengthens connections between art, advocacy, and action.
  1. Activity 3: Air Quality Advocacy Campaigns (1 hour)
    • Implementation:
      Students design mini advocacy campaigns, incorporating their murals, slogans, and other artistic outputs. They present their campaigns to their peers, emphasizing ways to reduce pollution and promote cleaner air.

      • Teach communication skills for environmental advocacy.
